Calico was developed in 1881 during the largest silver strike in California. Located at the side of towering King Mountain, the town was named for the variety of colors in the mountain that were "as purty as a gal's calico skirt." Calico boomed during 1881-1896; but the end came to the silver rush in 1896 and by 1904 Calico had become a ghost town.
The Auto Club Speedway of Southern California (formerly California Speedway) is a two-mile (3 km), low-banked, D-shaped oval superspeedway in Fontana, California, similar to its "sister track" Michigan International Speedway. The Auto Club Speedway is the only track owned by International Speedway Corporation to have naming rights sold.
The High Desert Mavericks Professional Baseball Club was born in 1991 when the Brett Brothers (Bobby, George, Ken, and John) moved the Riverside Red Wave north to the city of Adelanto in the middle of the Mojave Desert.

The Route 66 "Mother Road" Museum was dedicated on July 4, 2000 in the historic Casa del Desierto, Harvey House, in Barstow, California. The Museum displays a collection of historic photographs and artifacts related to Route 66 and the Mojave Desert Communities.
Rainbow Basin Natural Area is located 8 miles north of Barstow, California, off Irwin Road (not Fort Irwin Road). The main access route is Fossil Bed Road. Rainbow Basin is designated as an Area of Critical Environmental Concern due to landscape features and paleontological resources in the area. Many visitors come to see exciting multi-colored rock formations and walk the scenic canyons. A variety of desert wildlife is found here, including the desert tortoise.

The San Manuel Amphitheater (formerly the Glen Helen Pavilion, Hyundai Pavilion, and the Blockbuster Pavilion), is a 65,000-seat amphitheater located in the hills of Glen Helen Regional Park in the Devore neighborhood of San Bernardino, California. It is the largest amphitheater in the United States. The orchestra, box, and loge sections seat a combined 10,902 people, while the lawn section seats 54,098.
The Western America Railroad Museum collects, preserves and shares the history of railroading in the Pacific Southwest for all who love railroads and railroading. W.A.R.M. provides educational forums with interpretive and historical displays that focuses on both Railroad History and the development of Railroad Technology.

Designed by William F. Bell, ASGCA, the par-72 Green Tree Golf Course in Victorville, CA opened in October 1963. There are not many golf courses like Green Tree GC around anymore. It's a course that treats you like an old friend - one that hasn't forgotten that golf is a game that should be played for fun.
The 18-hole "Hesperia" course at the Hesperia Golf & Country Club facility in Hesperia, California features 6,996 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72 . The course rating is 73.5 and it has a slope rating of 131. Designed by William F. Bell, ASGCA, the Hesperia golf course opened in 1957.

Adelanto was founded in 1915 by E. H. Richardson, the inventor of what became the Hotpoint Electric Iron. He sold his patent and purchased land for $75,000. He had planned to develop one of the first master planned communities in Southern California.
